On Tuesday, we had our church Pioneer Day party. It was really fun. We had a potluck dinner, and potluck in our church rocks.
Just imagine 100 grandmas bringing their best recipes in giant pans that could feed 50 people. Then they stand back and tell you to eat more because there is too much food, and you are too skinny, and how are they going to carry all that food home? It is the best.
Skyler and Shaylin always wear their Heelys when we have church dinners so that they “can go back for more food faster”. When they do the sweet old ladies all say, “Oh look, there goes Skyler rolling back for more food. He is such a good boy. We need to fatten him up.” It’s awesome.
So at the church party, they planned a kids’ parade. We all transformed our toy wagons into covered wagons. Ours involved a lot of duct tape, two water noodles, and a bed sheet. Shaylin put a beautiful sign on one side of the wagon that said, “The pioneers loved us.” Skyler put one on the other side that said, “Caution Cow Dropping.” Lovely.
We had to have the parade inside because it was POURING outside, so the older kids marched around the gym pulling the younger ones in the wagons, while the adults sang pioneer songs. When the primary president announced into the microphone that the parade was ready to begin, she told the whole church that Skyler had just asked, “Are we going to throw candy to all the old people?” I’ve never seen his face so red. Anyway, it was a great party.
