July 4th

We had a fun 4th. Our friends let us borrow their condo in Telluride for the weekend. It was gorgeous there. Telluride is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been. It is this quaint, little ski town completely surrounded by gorgeous mountains.

(Side note - Telluride has turned into a high-end resort town that attracts rich ski bums and celebrities. Oprah, Bob Dylan, Daryl Hannah, Jerry Seinfeld and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes all have homes there. This four bedroom house is currently for sale for $5,495,000. Crazy.)

Anyway, the summers in Telluride are full of fun things to do. From May through the end of October there is a festival every single weekend, with the exception of one week called the "Nothing Festival" during which local residents bike through town wearing nothing. That can’t be comfortable.

We had a ball going to their city parade, fair and fireworks show. The fireworks were amazing. There is definitely some tax money in Telluride. We window-shopped at the fun, but completely overpriced stores. We rode a gondola up the mountain, and we enjoyed the breathtaking scenery. We even saw a black bear.

We celebrated Shaylin’s birthday while we were there. She was convinced that the bear, the fair and the fireworks were all in honor of her. She declared it to be her "coolest birthday ever".

While we were on the gondola Macey turned to me and said, “This is so awesome!” Now she says that constantly, “So awesome!” It is adorable.

She had fun on our trip, but she was a little uncertain about the fireworks. She kept saying, “Ahh! Boom boom! It’s so wary (scary)! It’s so pretty!”

On the way home, Sawyer was talking nonstop (big surprise). Jason asked him to stop interrupting us and watch his show for 5 minutes. Thirty seconds later, he said, “Excuse me Dad, I have a real emergency… I need a chicken sandwich!” He is so random.

We got home late last night and we are heading out to Lake Powell tomorrow. (I know, poor us.) But I had better go and do some laundry so we don’t have a Nothing Festival of our own here.
